The Election Is Over—Now the Work Begins

The 2024 election didn’t go our way—and that hurts. Vice President Harris ran a campaign full of heart and historic firsts. But Donald Trump squeaked through with a narrow win, propped up by frustration, misinformation, and voter apathy. It feels like a punch in the gut.

But here’s the truth: Trump does not have a mandate. And more importantly, he does not have unchecked power.

The time to fight back isn’t in two years. It starts today.

We Lost an Election—Not Our Power

Donald Trump enters office with a slim congressional majority, an unpopular agenda, and a fragile coalition. He campaigned as the candidate of “change,” distancing himself from the very agenda he’s now poised to implement: Project 2025—a radical blueprint to remake America into a far-right authoritarian state.

That’s where you come in.

If you’ve been asking, “What can I do?”, the answer is: plenty. This blog series will walk you through real, doable steps to resist the MAGA agenda, protect vulnerable communities, and build a winning coalition for 2026 and beyond.

Let Yourself Feel It

Before we dive into tactics, take a breath. The grief is real—and valid.

Spend some time with people you trust. Talk through your fears and frustrations. Write down what you’re feeling. These emotions are fuel. They connect us to why we care in the first place.

What Just Happened

Despite the loss, the election wasn’t a MAGA landslide. It was a rejection of the status quo, not an embrace of fascism.

  • Democrats held the House steady.
  • Progressive ballot initiatives won across the country.
  • Abortion rights passed by popular vote, even in red states.
  • Many voters simply stayed home, tired and disillusioned.

That tells us something crucial: there is a path forward. But only if we organize.

Your First 3 Actions to Take This Week

You don’t need permission. You don’t need to wait for someone to tell you what to do. Start here:

1. Read the Indivisible Guide

Download and read the new Indivisible Guide to Democracy on the Brink. It breaks down everything from how to use your local power to how to organize under authoritarian creep.

2. Start Talking—Publicly

Post to your social media. Call a friend. Host a small dinner. Don’t let people retreat in silence. Talk about what happened and what’s next.

Example post:

“The 2024 election was a gut-punch, but I’m not giving up. I’m organizing. Join me. #WeWillWin #ResistProject2025”

3. Find or Form a Local Group

The most powerful thing you can do is connect with others. Check for an existing Indivisible group in your area—or start your own.

Find or start a group: indivisible.org/organize-your-home-turf

You only need two things:

  • A few people in your town
  • A commitment to show up

That’s it. The rest will grow from there.

What’s Next in the Series

In three weeks, we’ll dive deeper into constituent power—how to pressure elected officials, hold them accountable, and make them pay attention.
